I want to start out these posts with something that has been a holiday staple for my brothers and sister and I.
The Letters To Santa project.
Letters to Santa is something that each of us have participated in while in high school for the club, Future Business Leaders of America. It is a program that has children from underprivileged school districts write a "letter to Santa" with all of the things they have on their Christmas wishlist, You pick a name and read the letters a buy presents for the little boy or girl. My old high school, Warren Township High School is participating in it this year, If you would like to help, contact;
FBLAWarren@gmail.com
This year, I am doing something similar,
The Women's Center at the College of Lake County is making wishes come true with their annual Holiday Giving Tree program.
For $20, you can provide a gift for a child based on a "wishlist" filled out by the guardians with clothing sizes, favorite colors, and interests. Or for larger donation, you can pitch in with a group to "adopt" a whole family, and provide a holiday meal and small, much needed gifts such as winter coats, hats, children's books, and education toys, to the children of the family. It is really a wonderful program, The representative I spoke with in the Women's Empowerment Center could not stress enough how deserving these great kids are and how thankful they will be to get anything!
This year, I am helping Santa get gifts for:
- Scotty, a 9 year old boy who wants a Lego robot kit, a Transformers toy (his favorite is bumblebee), and anything remote controlled (My brother Danny wants to take this one! I think he can relate to the love of legos :P )
-Moet, an 11 year old girl who would like shirts, socks, and warm PJ's (but her interests involve listening to music, going to school, and the color pink, so we are definitely going to find some cute pink, girly clothes and something extra for her love of school and music!)
-Bradly, a 2 1/2 year old toddler, who wants books, any alphabet or number learning toy, and a fisher price "little people" toy set. Also, a training potty! (this baby sounds like a superstar, potty training and learning how to read!)
-Dulce, a Newborn girl at only 2 weeks old! she would love some newborn lightup and noise making toys, a "C" shaped boppy pillow, and a cute knitted winter hat for an infant, sz 0-3 or 3-6 months.
If anyone has any gently used toys or supplies for newborns and toddlers, The Women's Center at the College of Lake County would gladly accept! Everything helps!
